Canada has the highest tides on Earth, and they could soon generate energy
Sustainable Marine’s floating platform can generate energy from the high tides in the Bay of Fundy.
The Bay of Fundy, which separates New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, is home to the highest tides in the world and have been recorded at a towering 15 metres (50 feet) in height.
Researchers say that the extreme motions of the ocean waters in this region host significant potential for renewable energy development and the Canadian government has been investing in research that will develop the tidal turbines of the future.
A new floating platform with turbines that generate energy from the motion of the tides was recently launched into the Bay of Fundy by Sustainable Marine.

“With many island and coastal communities depending on polluting energy sources, our tidal power solutions empower those communities to better protect their coastlines and their livelihoods. By harnessing the power of moving water, we offer a clean alternative to diesel or coal,” Sustainable Marine states on their website.
