Weatherproof, sustainable, and fun: Hovercraft transit coming to S. Ontario
An innovative transit line aims to cut down highway congestion in the GTAA by avoiding roads altogether with hovercraft trips across Lake Ontario.
A new rapid transit route from Toronto to Niagara will debut in summer 2023 — the first of its kind in North America.
Hoverlink Ontario Inc. has recently announced plans to launch a hovercraft shuttle — and it says the service will be "weatherproof, sustainable, and fun to ride."

It's also a time saver: by cutting across Lake Ontario, passengers can expect to reach their destination in about 30 minutes. Compare that to the two hours it takes to travel by train or by car, depending on the traffic.

Service is expected to run 365 days a year, with up to 48 lake crossings per day — transporting up to three million passengers a year — and with 98 per cent fewer carbon emissions than cars, buses, and trains.
Because the crafts "float" on a cushion of air, they only leave the tininst amount of wake or wash as they travel, causing no harm to shorelines.
Hovercrafts can travel over land, ice, and water, in virtually all weather conditions.
The company estimates a round trip will set you back about $50 to $60.
