Take your lawn from good to great this spring!
Spring is a great time to set your lawn up for success so it can thrive all summer long!
Many Canadians love spending spring days lounging in their backyards, soaking up the sun and resetting after a long harsh Canadian winter.
But just like Canadians, our lawns could use some extra help recovering from those winter weather elements.
To breathe new life into our yards this spring season - start from the ground up!
Time for spring cleaning!
Take that spring cleaning outside and pick up any unwanted objects lying on your lawn, like large sticks, toys or rocks.
Next, rake up the small stuff, like fallen leaves, twigs or acorns.
And lastly, prune any dead branches or shrubs surrounding the yard. It’s always best to work with a clean canvas!

Look out for signs of distress!
Winters can be weary and your lawn may be feeling a bit drained.
Icy cold winters can really dehydrate your grass’ roots, leaving your lawn without essential nutrients that promote healthy growth.
Keep an eye out for signs of distress shown in brown coloured grass blades and bare areas in general.
Restore the health of your soil!
Over time, your lawn loses its ability to store and utilize essential nutrients. If you notice your lawn is looking distressed or lackluster, it may be time to use a soil enhancer!
A soil enhancer is a crucial part of having a healthy lawn because it helps soil retain and utilize nutrients and water. Both of which are essential for supporting a healthy microbial environment and enhancing the performance of the soil to promote a greener, healthier lawn.
A soil enhancer gives your lawn a breather from everyday stresses so it can absorb more of what's good for it - like air, water and nutrients.
It’s a great idea to use a pelletized soil enhancer - this form is made up of key ingredients similar to a traditional top dress but has been made into a pelletized form to make it faster and easier to apply with a spreader.
Try to use a soil enhancer every spring and/or fall and remember, happier soil makes for a healthier lawn.
Combine with aeration & overseeding
Just like a soil enhancer, aeration is great for loosening compacted soil.
A core aerator removes plugs of soil from your lawn and allows vital air, water and nutrients to reach the roots.
It’s a great idea to aerate your lawn every year or two.
Combine aeration with overseeding for the best results!
Overseeding is an easy and inexpensive way to help reinvigorate your lawn and early spring is a great time to do it!
Overseeding is great for choking away any unwanted weeds and it is also known to enhance the appearance of your lawn.

Last but not least, water!
Water is ESSENTIAL for a happy and healthy lawn but it’s important to know when to stop.
If you water too frequently, it can bring life to diseases - but if you water too lightly, the roots will not grow deep enough.
Most lawns need 1 inch of water per week, either from rain or watering, to soak the soil 6-8 inches deep and it’s best to water first thing in the morning.
Here’s an easy tip to see if your grass is thirsty. All you do is walk across your lawn and if you can clearly see your footprints, then your grass is asking for a drink!
Spring is a great time to set your lawn up for success so it can thrive all summer long! But remember, it’s essential to treat your lawn with care for best results.
Try using soil enhancers, aeration & seeding and of course, the right amount of water to ensure your soil is nice and healthy. Your lawn will thank you for it!
