Nova Scotia couple turns heads for winter morning ritual

That's one way to start the day.

Drivers traveling past Herring Cove road in Halifax, Nova Scotia this past winter have been doing a double-take after Jonathan Howard and Dylan Cag moved into the area.

The pair practice the "Wim Hof" method of exposing themselves to cold temperatures every morning and they say the health benefits are incredible.

"I wanted a natural remedy to the flu, I just didn’t want to get sick anymore and just wanted to be full of energy," Howard says.

"This is what led me to a random Google search and I found this guy called the ice man claiming that he never gets sick anymore because of this method. And I was like: 'OK, Ill try it out.'"

Their overall technique involves special breathing, stretching and yoga.

Cag says it's generated a lot of local attention.

“Until I wave and I smile they’re really concerned," she says.

"I even had the police come by one day.”

Howard has been practising the method for four years now and says if you’re thinking about starting, it’s best to do so gradually.
