Canadian winters sure are tough, but it can be even harsher on our skin. Here's how to stay protected.

As temperatures drop, winter weather can make your skin feel dry and irritated from head to toe.

To combat the dry skin blues, follow these five skincare tips and keep your skin feeling hydrated all season long.

1. Lower the thermostat

Despite its comforts, heating up your home from a day spent outside in the cold can leave your skin dry, itchy, and rough.

The transition from going from cold to hot can quickly result in drier skin.

To maintain moisture, try setting the thermostat to a comfortable temperature around 20°C (68°F) to 22°C (72°F). Keeping temperatures on the cooler side can alleviate the issue of drier skin.

2. Your skincare starts in the shower

Look for a body wash that not only adds but also locks in moisture, so once you step out of the shower your skin feels its best.

Use a body wash that is formulated with Vitamin B3 Complex; it’s known to hydrate your skin to allow it to retain its own moisture.

We recommend using Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash with Shea Butter - with regular use, this type of product has been proven to help protect the skin’s moisture barrier by providing hydration and preventing dry skin.

3. Wear appropriate clothing and layer up

It’s important to wear appropriate clothing to shield your body from icy cold temperatures when bracing the great outdoors.

Warm-thick clothing can feel rough against the skin and could cause irritation.

4. Avoid wet clothes.

Winter weather can be wet and soggy - and it can definitely soak your clothes!

After a day spent outside bracing the harsh winter elements, such as snow, wind, and rain, it’s best to ditch the wet clothes off your back as soon as you’re home.
