Sunscreen 101: Become a sun protection pro
How much sunscreen do you really need? And does it actually expire?
With temperatures starting to heat up across Canada, it's important to be aware of sun exposure and the dangers that could come with it. In this episode of Health and Weather, we asked pharmacist Victor Wong about sunscreen, aftercare, and even the types of cancers related to too much sun exposure.
Some quick notes:
While a UVA/UVB sunscreen with an SPF of 30 should be sufficient, most people don't apply enough sunscreen. Opt for an SPF 50 if you tend to be lighter in the application process.
Yes, your sunscreen will expire and become less effective.
If you do get a sunburn, remember to stay hydrated. Sunburns cause fluids to go to the surface of the skin, which can be dehydrating.
