Atlantic Canada record set for largest pumpkin, just shy of national
Despite falling short of breaking Canada's largest pumpkin record, Carl Graham's attempt was big enough to take the Atlantic region's top spot.
And with that, Carl Graham's dreams of growing Canada's first 2,000-pound pumpkin were dashed.
At 1,956 pounds (887 kilograms), the gourd was only 44 pounds shy of that goal, and remarkably only three pounds shy of the Canadian record that was set in Ontario (1,959 pounds/888.5 kilograms).

Still, Graham, who resides in Donkin, N.S., now has the largest-ever pumpkin grown in Atlantic Canada. It is aptly named Howard after Howard Dill, who patented the region's giant pumpkin seed and was known as the father of all pumpkins.

From early size estimates, the pumpkin was expected to weigh approximately 2,200 pounds (about 998 kilograms), but you never really know until it hits the scale.
Graham told The Weather Network he is somewhat disappointed, but pleased with the Atlantic record because it is a personal best...and it did give people a lot of smiles over the past few months.
In 2012, the Nova Scotia resident placed third in the world with a hefty 1,811-pound (821 kilogram) pumpkin.
