This tiny stowaway caused chaos on a Spirit Airlines flight
Travellers aboard a Spirit Airlines plane had more flight in their 'in-flight' entertainment than usual last week.
About 30 minutes after the plane took off from Charlotte, North Carolina, a live bat emerged into the cabin and began zooming back and forth over the heads of some amused -- and some terrified -- passengers.
It isn't clear where the little stowaway came from, but Peter Scattini, who posted a video of the incident to Twitter, told the Huffington Post that most of the paying passengers weren't enthusiastic about sharing their ride.
"Passengers started screaming and yelling, and very quickly things devolved into chaos," Scattini told HuffPost.
Scattini estimated the bat buzzed the passengers for about five minutes before someone "trapped it between a book and a cup" and grounded the unauthorized flier. It spent the rest of the 90-minute flight in one of the plane's bathrooms.
Spirit Airlines issued a statement to HuffPost, confirming the incident and saying no one was injured.
"The aircraft was disinfected and searched as a precaution," a representative from Spirit told the publication. "It is believed the bat started its journey in Charlotte, flying into an overhead bin while our crews were doing overnight maintenance."
While it seems to be the first choice of bats on the go, Spirit Airlines ranked lowest in an American Consumer Satisfaction Index report in 2016 and 2017.
