How researchers and art students are helping recover B.C.'s rockfish population
Rockfish are an extremely important part of British Columbia's ecosystem. They serve as a food source for some larger marine life, such as seal, and also consume smaller fish themselves which help keep certain populations in check.
However in the 1990s, for some unknown reason, rockfish numbers began to rapidly decline and they haven't been able to recover since.
Two years ago, researchers at Ocean Wise were given a grant to help the rockfish population, and they came up with a very creative way to do just that. Reporter Mia Gordon with details on how art students are at the forefront of this effective endeavor in the video above.
