Eerie dust storm turns sky orange over snowy mountains in Australia
The Snowy Mountains are the highest mountain range on the entire continent of Australia
A dust storm that tracked through the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales on September 21 created an eerie scene as the sky turned orange.
The orange haze formed as wind gusts over 130 km/h swept thick dust up into the air.
The footage, which can be seen in the video above, was captured by Diji Mick Hopkins and shows the landscape in Charlotte Pass resembling the planet Mars, which has an orange-reddish colour because of the iron oxide in its soil.

The Snowy Mountains are the highest mountain range on the entire continent of Australia and can experience large snowfalls during the winter season, which is unusual for the rest of the country.
The climate in this mountainous region is significantly different than mainland Australia, and the climate station at Charlotte Pass recorded Australia's lowest temperature of -23.0°C on June 28, 1994.
