Hundreds of eerie, immense sinkholes appear in Turkey
Hundreds of sinkholes have appeared in this region of Turkey
Over 300 sinkholes appeared in Turkey’s central province of Konya on May 16.
Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) released the footage of the eerie sinkholes, which looks like a scene out of a sci-fi movie.
This phenomenon occurs in beautiful fields and tourists often visit the unique landscape.

One of the largest sinkholes in this province is over 2,000 years old and has a 17,500 square meter area with man-made caves inside.
Scientists believe that natural geological processes and the increased use of groundwater caused such a high number of sinkholes.
The expansion of modern irrigated agriculture in the Konya province has increased the demand for groundwater and have caused several issues for farmers, such as land subsidence and unsustainable practices.
