These 45-million-year-old canyons change colour with the seasons
The canyons are currently closed to the public due to the pandemic.
These 45 million-year-old canyons, called Saklikapi (or 'hidden door') and Karaleylek - were discovered last year in Elazig, eastern Turkey.
The area is bursting with biodiversity and is home to lakes, streams, and caves, as well as numerous bird and plant species.
It's the variety of life that adds colour to the landscape -- and as the seasons change, so do the plants and animals that frequent the area.
The area spans a distance of 2.5 kilometers and reaches depths of about 200 metres.
“I used to see such places in documentaries and I was amazed by them, but it turns out that we have had one near us all this time," Fethi Ak, the local who discovered the canyons and then shared his findings with academics, told state-run Anadolu Agency last July.
"I have never imagined that there would be such a great place in our region, I’m so delighted."
The canyons are expected to become a huge tourist draw -- but like many other things, they are currently closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
