Since April 13 was International Plant Appreciation Day, there’s no better time to pay some extra attention to your plant babies. If you’re looking to spruce up, repot, or add to your existing collection, here’s a list of budding local brands you’ll want to order from this spring.
Foli - (Burlington, Ont.)
Emily is the self-proclaimed crazy plant lady behind Foli, which is an online store for plants and accessories. Her mission is to connect people with plants by having all of the requirements easily available for order as well as providing delivery to your door. She also includes cards with tips and information about sunlight and watering that are specific to the plant you ordered, so you can take the utmost care of your newest addition.
Foli works with as many Canadian growers as they can. If you’re looking to send someone a gift or to expand your own collection, Emily says there’s a plant out there for everyone. Plants and pots are sold separately or together and can be shipped across Canada.

Prairieknotco (Saskatoon, Sask.)
Jan is a retired nurse turned creative artisan and maker as the founder of Prairieknotco. Her textile company offers baskets made from 100 per cent cotton rope that is hand-dyed using predominantly natural and organic dyes. Recently, Jan’s daughters joined the business helping with sewing, web design, and bookkeeping.
Prairieknotco baskets are a good way to add sophistication and style to your plants. They are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, including hanging baskets (which are perfect for adding some greenery to small spaces!).

Homebody Collective (Toronto, Ont.)
Cass started Homebody Collective in 2016. She was creating her product at home and decided to test a theory. She biked around to various stores and showed them her work, walking away with four orders from the venture. From that, her business was born! Her plant gear and home décor are now available from her successful online shop, local markets, and in stores across North America.
Homebody Collective planters are shipped empty with no plant. This provides you with the opportunity to go to your local garden centre and choose something small, like a succulent or an air plant, that will suit the design you order.

Le Club Terracotta is a woman-founded online business that ships do-it-yourself pottery kits directly to your home. All of the clay and paints included are made in Quebec as well. Their website indicates that pottery is a hobby that calms anxiety - noting that shaping a little pot for your cactus helps busy your mind and relieve stress.
This is an excellent option to involve your kids in plant appreciation. Not only can they create their own pot, but they can also select the type of plant that fits it best from somewhere like Cactus en ligne (Montreal, Que.), and learn to care for it.

Local brand Pinetree Innovations started producing handmade home accents and gifts in their garage back in 1995. What began as their hobby became their full-time family business and their products can be found online and in stores across the country.
Their signature succulent pots will surely put a smile on your face with their clever plant puns! Even though the pots are manufactured internationally, they are both designed and printed in Saskatchewan.
