Thousands of golf balls wash ashore following series of winter storms
It's the ultimate water hazard.
California's Carmel River State Beach has become a docking spot for hundreds of golf balls, which have been washing ashore by the dozens in recent days.
A series of winter storms are believed to be responsible for transporting the balls into the Pacific from the golf course at nearby Pebble Beach, which has two holes with ocean views.
Several atmospheric rivers raised water levels, dislodging golf balls that may have been trapped for years, KSBW reports via CNN.
Many balls are still usable, and golfers have been flocking to the region to stock up.
“So, this is my third day down here, and I get about 50 to 100 in a half hour, and I’ve seen a lot of other people picking up balls throughout the days,” resident Conall Jones told KSBW.
“There’s still a lot, though, and they’re going to keep getting pushed up onto the beach, so there’s plenty.”
