Meteor spotted in Newfoundland - see it here
You would have had to be looking upwards in Conception Bay South, NL at just the right moment to see the unusual event.
When Sheena Tucker had a security camera and floodlight installed, she never predicted what she’d catch on video only a week later.
"I watched [the video] like five times," she tells The Weather Network.
"I’m like, 'my goodness, that's ... something coming down out of the sky.”
Astronomy expert Scott Sutherland knew immediately what that “something” was.
“A classic meteor fireball," he says.
"...This was a small piece of rock, maybe the size of a baseball ... that just plunged into the atmosphere from space travelling at 50 to 60 kilometres per second. Maybe upwards of 200,000 kilometres per hour when it hits the atmosphere."
And the timing couldn’t have been better for Sheena Tucker.
