New comet NEOWISE makes an appearance alongside stunning Saskatchewan auroras
Weather Network viewer, Notanee Bourassa captured a stunning scene near Kisby, Saskatchewan on July 13.

A RARE SUMMER SIGHT
While northern lights occur year-round, they're most commonly observed between October and March, because prolonged periods of darkness allow for more viewing opportunities and, at times, more vibrant displays.
The aurora borealis is a result of a chemical reaction that occurs when electromagnetic radiation from the sun interacts with Earth's atmosphere.
ABOUT THE COMET
Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) was first discovered on March 27, 2020, as it approached the Sun from below the ecliptic plane. Spotted by NASA's NEOWISE space telescope, this comet was found to be on a very long journey. It just spent nearly 3,400 years flying in from the outer edges of our solar system to swing around the Sun!
