Aquarium offers shelter in SHARK tunnel during tornado
When tornado warnings are issued people are advised to immediately seek shelter, and an aquarium in Oklahoma has recently gone viral for their unique shelter option.
Thunderstorms, heavy rains, and a fatal EF-2 tornado tracked through Oklahoma earlier this week and left significant damage in El Reno.
Staying safe during a tornado involves seeking shelter indoors, particularly in basements or windowless rooms. Tornados can quickly form and leave little time for evacuation, and the Oklahoma Aquarium announced on Facebook that staff and guests can take shelter in their shark tunnel in the event of severe weather.

The social media post explains that the shark tunnel and dome are designed to handle extreme force due to the exhibits concrete construction that is over 30 cm (one foot) thick.
This sturdy exhibit design can hold thousands of litres of water and can withstand the force of whipping winds and rains.
Some Facebook users expressed their concerns about seeking shelter in a glass, shark-infested room, but the aquarium stated that only acrylic and concrete materials are used in the exhibit.
