PHOTOS: Manitoba storm brings 70+ cm for some, plane gets stuck at airport

Fall snowstorm makes for major disruptions in southern Manitoba.

Southern Manitoba is experiencing an early taste of winter with heavy snow and strong winds that forced the closure of many major routes through the region.

The major snowstorm even caused a WestJet plane to go off the edge of the taxiway and get stuck in the snow at the airport in Winnipeg, as reported by Global News.

As of 1 p.m. on Saturday several regions saw significant snowfall amounts with 60 cm in Theherne and 74 cm in Carberry. Light snow will continue into Sunday before tapering off into flurries.

Tens of thousands remained without power Sunday morning and Manitoba Hydro crews said they have 'never seen anything like' the conditions in some rural areas. Many of the outages are expected to last until at least Sunday as temperatures hover near the freezing mark.
