Heavy rain still ahead for East Coast, Hurricane Sam update
This soggy midweek has seem plenty of rain for parts of the Maritimes, with showers continuing through Thursday into Friday for some parts of the region.
As Hurricane Sam occupies forecasters' attention this week for a potential track towards Atlantic Canada in the next several days, the region has seen at-times heavy deluges Wednesday, thanks to multiple lows that will keep some areas soggy through Friday. A drier start to the weekend beckons, but Sam, if it has an impact on the East Coast, will begin to impact the region early next week. For details, read on.

TOWARD FRIDAY: SHOWERS CONTINUE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY
A boundary overtop of Nova Scotia brought another low into the region Wednesday, with heavy rain for eastern Nova Scotia, prompting rainfall warnings that were still in effect Wednesday night.
Overnight into Thursday, that system gradually drifts northward, bringing on-and-off rain that will be heaviest in Cape Breton, northern New Brunswick, and western Newfoundland.
In all, eastern Nova Scotia and parts of western Newfoundland have around 30-50 mm left to fall by the time the raindrops stop falling early Friday, but most of the region except perhaps western Nova Scotia still should expect at least some on-and-off showers.

Beyond, drier conditions and near seasonal temperatures are anticipated for the start of the weekend.
Meanwhile, Hurricane Sam is being watched closely for potential Canadian impacts, especially with the damage recently caused in Newfoundland by Hurricane Larry.
"Confidence is increasing that Sam will track too far to the southeast of Newfoundland to have a direct impact on the region other than very rough seas," says Dr. Doug Gillham, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "However, it is still early to completely rule out a track closer to the coast of Newfoundland early next week, so we will continue to keep a close eye on Sam."
Cooler than seasonal temperatures are expected for early next week, then becoming milder for mid and late next week.
