Nova Scotians head to Florida to help with Hurricane Milton prep

Over a million people have had to evacuate ahead of the storm.

All eyes are on Florida, with Hurricane Milton to several coastal communities.

With mandatory evacuations underway, several Nova Scotian crews are en route to Tampa to assist with hurricane preparations, mobilizing less than 24 hours after receiving the call for help.

"Nova Scotians are no strangers to the devastating impacts of these kinds of weather events," reads part of a statement posted to X by Nova Scotia Power.

"We are so proud of our colleagues who stand ready to help our American neighbors. Stay safe out there."

This isn't the first time Nova Scotians have stepped in to help Floridians during a hurricane. In 2017, two dozen Nova Scotia Power employees travelled to Florida to help restore power to millions of customers after Hurricane Irma.
