Tropical Depression Vince was an unexpected visitor to Spain, as the area doesn't really get hurricanes, and certainly not during the middle of October.

On October 11, 2005, the rain in Spain stayed mainly everywhere. Tropical Depression Vince was the first tropical cyclone on record to make landfall in Spain.
Tropical Depression Vince, once a hurricane, had slightly weakened before going ashore in the Iberian Peninsula. All fishing and cruise boats in the area quickly returned to their ports to avoid being at sea during the extreme storm conditions.
Spain doesn't get a lot of hurricane action, nevertheless in the middle of October.
Vince was extremely rare as the water conditions were considered too cold to create such a powerful storm.
Vince brought a ton of rain to Spain, which actually ended up supporting the region, as it was suffering from droughts and wildfires.
The rain refilled the reservoirs and helped the population with critical water supply.
